Golden Eagles have always been symbolic birds for their remarkable nobility, grand appearance and pride. They are the biggest of all eagles, and, in old times, it was only a King's privilege to hunt one. Maybe, that was in part why they acquired the name 'Kings of Birds'. Their regal nature found reflection in a wide use of the Golden Eagle's image in heraldries of different countries.

The Golden Eagle can be found everywhere in the northern hemisphere. In the 20th century, their natural habitat exposed them to drastic changes. The reduction of the natural habitat has led to a sharp drop in jackrabbit population, the basic prey for golden eagles.

In the old days, only Kings possessed Golden Eagles. Now it is not easy even for a king to purchase an eagle and it is not actually because of its high value, but because the bird is under protection as an endangered species.

Golden Eagles live in the Northern regions of North America, Europe and Asia. They prefer solitary areas and they tend to nest in rocky and woody mountains on cliffs. In America, the population of Golden Eagles is concentrated in the west. Intensive urbanization and industrialization have forced large numbers of Golden Eagles to move away from eastern and central states.
